Lyapunov equation

This chapter is about numerical methods for a particular type of equation expressed as a matrix equality. The Lyapunov equation is the most common problem in the class of problems called matrix equations. Other examples of matrix equations: Sylvester equation, Stein equation, Riccati equation. Definition 5.0.1 Consider two square matrices A, W ∈ Rn×n. The problem to find a square matrix X ∈ Rn×...

A fast eikonal equation solver using the Schrödinger wave equation

Abstract. We use a Schrödinger wave equation formalism to solve the eikonal equation. We show that a solution to the eikonal equation is obtained in the limit as ~ → 0 of the solution to the corresponding linear Schrödinger equation. The Schrödinger equation corresponding to the eikonal turns out to be a generalized, screened Poisson equation. Despite being linear, it does not have a closed-for...

A Numerical Equation Solver in Prolog

The Prolog inference engine can be extended to solve for unknowns in arithmetic equations such as X−1=1/X or X=cos(X), whether or not the equations have analytic solutions. This is done by standard numerical methods, but two features of Prolog make the implementation easy: the ability to treat expressions as data and the ability of the program to extend itself at run time.

Lyapunov Functionals for the Enskog Equation

Two Lyapunov functionals are presented for the Enskog equation. One is to describe interactions between particles with various velocities and another is to measure the L distance between two classical solutions. The former yields the time-asymptotic convergence of global classical solutions to the collision free motion while the latter is applied into the verification of the L stability of glob...
